At AIA Granite Supplier and Haulage Services, we provide dependable and timely delivery of high-quality granite materials to your project site, whether small, medium or large scale.
Stone Dust
Stone Dust (also called quarry dust or crusher dust) is a fine material made from crushed stone. It’s commonly used in construction for:
- Paving Base:– Under interlocking tiles, slabs, or concrete blocks
- Filling Gaps:– Between bricks or stones
- Leveling:- Helps create a smooth, compacted surface before laying tiles
- Subgrade Material:– Used as a base layer for roads and walkways
- Concrete Mix :- Sometimes used as a partial replacement for sand in concrete
Stone Base
Stone Base (also called Granite Base or Laterite Base depending on the type) is used primarily for foundation and road construction. Here are its main uses:
- Road Base Layer:- It’s used as a solid foundation before asphalt is applied on roads.
- Building Foundation Fill:– Supports structures by providing a strong, stable base.
- Driveways & Parking Lots:- Helps prevent sinking or shifting over time.
- Compaction Material:- Compacts well for creating solid subgrades.
- Drainage Support:- Allows water to filter through while supporting heavy loads.
Rice (3/8)
Rice (3/8) granite, also known as 3/8 inch chippings, is commonly used for:
- Flooring and Concrete Work:- Mixed into concrete for floors, slabs, and screeding.
- Paving/Interlocking:– Often used in laying interlocking stones.
- Drainage Fill:- Works well in drainage channels to allow water flow.
- Decorative Landscaping:- Sometimes used in gardens or compounds.
1/2 Inch
1/2 Inch Granite (also called Half Inch Chippings) is commonly used for:
- Concrete Work:– Ideal for mixing strong concrete for floors, pillars, and beams.
- Casting & Slabs:- Used in casting decking, lintels, and slab works.
- Road and Pavement Construction:- Mixed in surface layers for smoother finish.
- Drainage Channels:- Supports good water flow while being compactable.
Three Quarter (3/4)
Three Quarter (3/4) made up of granite particles bigger than 3/4 Down:
- Concrete Casting:- Ideal for strong concrete used in columns, beams, slabs, and decking.
- Foundation Work:– Adds strength to the concrete mix for building bases.
- Soakaway & Septic Tank Fill:– Prevents clogging and supports filtration.
- Stabilizing Foundations:- Supports and spreads weight evenly.
3/4 Down
3/4 Down is a standard size chipping used widely in construction, typically made up of granite particles smaller than 3/4:
- Concrete Work:– Ideal for mixing strong concrete for floors, pillars, and beams.
- Drainage Work:- Allows smooth water flow due to its clean, coarse texture.
- Backfilling:- Around walls, culverts, or retaining structures.
- Casting & Slabs:- Used in casting decking, lintels, and slab works.
- Soakaway & Septic Tank Fill:– Prevents clogging and supports filtration.
- Stabilizing Foundations:- Supports and spreads weight evenly.
- Road and Pavement Construction:- Mixed in surface layers for smoother finish.
7/8 Granite
7/8 Granite is a relatively large granite chipping size, slightly bigger than 3/4 inch, and is mainly used for heavy-duty construction projects. Common uses of 7/8 Granite include:
- Road Construction:- Ideal for strong base layers in highways and access roads.
- Bridge and Drain Projects:- Used in reinforced concrete for heavy infrastructure.
- Large-Scale Foundation Work:- Adds strength to concrete in commercial buildings.
- Railway Ballast (in some cases):- Depending on the project, for stability under tracks.
Hardcore
Hardcore is a coarse, strong material made from broken stones, concrete, or crushed granite. Mainly used for heavy-duty construction and structural support in construction projects. Uses of Hardcore include:
- Raising Ground Level:- For water-logged or uneven sites to improve stability.
- Foundation Filling:- Provides a strong, stable base before casting concrete.
- Floor Compaction:- Used to fill and level ground before concrete flooring.
- Backfilling:- Around retaining walls, soakaways, and drainage channels.
NOTE!!!
We offer a wide range of granite products from Stone Dust to Hardcore each designed to serve a unique purpose in construction whether it's for filling, concrete work, foundation, or road surfacing. While we've explained the general uses of each product, it’s essential to understand that no two construction projects are exactly the same. Factors such as soil type, building design, drainage and structural load all play a major role in determining the right material. That’s why your builder or site engineer should always have the final say on the type and size of granite to use. Their professional judgment ensures that the material selected will suit your specific project needs both functionally and structurally. So before placing your next order, kindly consult your engineer or contractor to avoid mistakes, reduce waste and get the best results for your investment. We’re here to supply exactly what your project requires on time, every time.
